Contrary to what is believed to be true, this house was never the honeymoon place of Marilyn Monroe and her husband, baseball player and Hall of Famer, Joe DiMaggio. In fact, Marilyn rented this house by herself in 1952 for 130 days, as records show, before marrying Joe DiMaggio in 1954.
With Spanish-style roof tiles and a whitewashed exterior that captured the Mediterranean vibe, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom home in the Outpost Estates community was designed by Architect Charles Toberman, who was also the author of Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, Grauman’s Chinese Theater and many luxury homes around Los Angeles. Like the owner, the house’s interiors are as beautiful and elegant.
The main living area features a vaulted ceiling, an antique candelabra, and arch top double doors that lead to a covered porch that overlooks the Runyon Canyon. On the right, there’s a fireplace with exposed brick. The exposed wood beams are still the original ones!

The kitchen was probably the room that suffered the biggest remodel of the entire house. This area used to be separated in small rooms: a kitchen, a butler’s pantry and a laundry area. These three rooms were later merged to create the kitchen as it looks today.
This dining room is off the kitchen and leads to the main level’s covered porch. It also connects to the living room not only through the door but also the interior decor, that holds the same aesthetic.

The master bedroom is a spacious room filled with natural light that is reflected by the soft tones of the furniture and the walls. With a door that leads to a balcony, we can almost envision Marilyn standing there, appreciating the view over the canyon.

The master bathroom is the most beautiful room in the house, it is impossible not to be in love with it! Beautiful blue tiles cover the wall and bathtub as the mediterranean style chosen for the house requires.
A smaller sitting room, located near one of the guest bedrooms, has the same historic ceiling decorations as the rest of the home. The mid-century decor fits both our time and Marilyn’s.
Another one of the bathrooms includes vintage touches such as the copper free-standing bathtub, a beautiful painted washbasin incorporated in the vanity.
The porch offers a sitting area but also provides the perfect place for an al fresco meal. With a beautiful view over the Runyon Canyon and the grotto-style pool with jacuzzi, it is the perfect lounge area.
With slab stone steps leading down to the water, the pool was designed to blend in with the surroundings. As you can see, the house is well protected from prying eyes and maybe that was one of the reasons why Marilyn chose such a secluded place to live.
