Mid-Century Inspiration: Discover Carlo Donati’s New Collection

Carlo Donati

We’ve previously talked about the collaboration between Carlo Donati and the luxury mid-century brand Essential Home! Today, The Most Expensive Homes is going to show this designers’ exclusive mid-century collection and we hope that you’ll be inspired by his unique ideas and his incredible sense of elegance and style. One thing we can guarantee, whether you are a home design enthusiast or one of the top interior experts in the world: these are the mid-century modern pieces you were missing in your design project!

The new mid-century modern collection by Carlo Donati and Essential Home combines the best of both worlds, or in this case, inspirations. It is not only a tribute to the great Italian architecture and design legends but also a representation of Palm Springs’ mid-century modern architecture and design culture with its taste for bright colors and the typical upholstery with geometric patterns. Each piece of La Dolce Vita Collection is named after an Italian great actor or director of the mid-century. Here is your opportunity to be one of the first lovers to get inside La Dolce Vita!

Referencing the inspiring design concepts of the post-war period, that was marked by iconic personalities, like Gio Ponti and Franco Albini, the Carlo Donati Studio combined forces with one of the top mid-century furniture brands to create a memorable collection that combines style, high-quality material, fine craftsmanship techniques with a touch of history. These are two of the top names that have marked with mid-century design world thanks to their astonishing ideas.

Besides sharing interest about great architecture and designers from the last century, Carlo Donati also finds fascinating the modernist concept applied in a different context, like the Palm Springs scenery with its timelessly elegant villas, a place in the middle of the desert that was a quite popular vacation destination in the 50s and 60s.

Named after one of the best Italian cinema personalities (Alberto Sordi), the smooth curvilinear lines of the wooden legs of this unique furniture piece take inspiration from the architectural shapes of Oscar Niemeyer’s concrete structures.

These same curvilinear lines are found in the sophisticated design of the Vittorio sideboard, named after the great Vittorio Gassman. The combination of the wooden black lacquered H shaped legs with a walnut wood body and recessed golden handles, recall the lines of a blooming flower.

The precious crossing curved brass frame of this beautiful screen by Carlo Donati, named after Giulietta Masina, creates an elegant dialogue with the upholstery- deep yellow or peacock velvet combined with a fifties’ taste fabric.

These unique fifties patterns are also found in the luxurious upholstery of Carlo Donati‘s Federico chair design, paired with the ivory back seats. This beautiful mid-century piece is a tribute to the great Federico Fellini, one of the best Italian film director and screenwriter, that was known for his distinctive style, which mix of mixing fantasy and baroque images with dreadfulness.

Embracing a fluid line design, this high-end rug design was handcrafted by the best Portuguese master artisans. Named after the iconic Claudia Cardinale, this luxury piece by Carlo Donati and Essential Home embodies an unexpected selection of wool colors, connected with rust, light blue, and sand powder palette.

Inspired by the Turin’s beautiful Palazzo del Lavoro by Pier Luigi Nervi and Gio Ponti, this unique lighting design embodies a look of a stylized plant with a round-shaped heart with the arms that rise like gilded branches. More than a simple mid-century modern lighting piece, the Mina Chandelier is one of a kind statement fixture for your design project.
