Selldorf Architects is an architectural design practice founded by Annabelle Selldorf in New York in 1988. Ever since the start, the firm has created public and private spaces that manifest a sensibility to a clear and modern design.
Since its’ beginning, the firm’s principles have been deeply rooted in the human connection. –Selldorf Architects designs for the individual and for the experience a human can get from the space – the belief is that the work is brought to life and completed by those who use it.

The Principal of Selldorf Architects.
Born and raised in Germany, she got her bachelorette in Architecture from Pratt Institute and her masters in the same field from the Syracuse University in Florence, Italy. Part of the American Institute of Architects and of the Board of the Architectural League of New York, Annabelle has collected quite a few awards to her name – and her practices’. Her work ranges from recycling to high-rise projects, to many exquisite villas at resorts.
Selldorf Architects makes sure to follow the process that eliminated the unnecessary elements and provides only the clearest and most human-friendly of environments – from the full concept to the finest and simplest details.
Overall focused on the specific demands of the cultural and art-related projects, with significant expertise in the gallery, exhibition and studio spaces. Other projects in which the firm has experienced are museums, art foundations, and collectors’ homes.
Some of the most well-known projects Annabelle’s practice has created are the Manhattan outpost for art dealer David Zwirner, the structures for Parc des Ateliers – an art and research center in Arles, France, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and the Neue Galerie New York.
Despite this bigger focus and expertise on the firms’ part on art and cultural related facilities, the residential architecture – both at the scale of private homes and multi-family dwelling continues to be an important part of the firm’s portfolio.
