Over the course of Wilmington Country Club‘s history, several changes have taken place. From a tiny nine-hole course crammed in between homes to the masterwork of course designs that exist today.

A letter announcing the founding of the Wilmington Country Club and the obtaining of a long-term lease for a sustainable piece of property was sent to a select group of Wilmington residents on May 15, 1901. On July 1st of the following year, the Wilmington Country Club clubhouse was finished, and the first open golf competition was played.
The Winterthur Property from H.F. duPont, which represented 335 acres of land, was acquired by the board directors, and that same year the South Course was open to guests. On November 8th, the new clubhouse on Kirk road was officially opened.
In 1965, two brand-new, indoor tennis courts that cost around $200,000 were unveiled alongside an exhibition that featured Vic Seixas, Bill Talbert, Dick Savitt, and Mike Green. Later, the William duPont, Junior Tennis House received a third court.
Gary Player and Carol Mann participated in two demonstration matches on the South Course in July 1966. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer engaged in an exhibition match two months later.
The clubhouse’s $7 million addition and remodeling were finished in 2014.
