It all started in 2001. Jointly created and promoted by The Village Sounds Agency and Secret Service music companies, Splendour began as a one-day gathering, later evolving to a three-day event in 2009. Its name comes from the poem Ode: Intimations of Immortality” by William Wordsworth, and its stages have showcased popular and established musical artists, as well as emerging Australian artists. The event has attracted notable artists such as Arctic Monkeys, Kanye West, Tame Impala and Kendrick Lamar, and this year’s 20-year anniversary celebration promises an equally iconic headlining group.
The festival offers a wide range of activities and acts that spread through the grounds, making it a diverse and inclusive event. While traditional dancers enliven the stage with tales from their native land and beyond, the World Stage will include the most intriguing world fusion acts, coordinated performance art, and more. Prepare to have your heart and mind stretched by First Nations storytellers, folksters, hip-hop DJs, and reggae masters.
Little Splendour is a space dedicated to the little ones. This kids‘ festival within the festival, which is open every day at 10 a.m., will include well-known figures from the children’s entertainment industry and a tonne of activities, including a knee-trembling climbing wall, vibrant workshops and, storytelling. There will also be roving entertainment, a sneaky flash mob, and a painting wall where they can channel their inner graffiti artist. In addition, there’s a family-friendly Tipi which offers a safe, private and comfortable space for feeding and a nappy changing station.
