Nicola Gallizia of Molteni designed the restaurant bearing Chef Giancarlo Morelli’s name in the city’s new Hotel Viu. The restaurant’s décor is clean and minimalist in keeping with Morelli’s culinary philosophy of employing few (but complementing) ingredients. The mood is set by the restaurant’s dark walls, wooden floors, and globe chandeliers from the 1970s, while Morelli himself designed the kitchen.

A 16th-century former monastery was converted by architects Fanny Bauer Grung and David Lopez Quincoces into Six Gallery, which houses a design gallery, restaurant, florist, and studio for their company. The Sixieme Bistrot is located in the courtyard of the building and is surrounded by tropical plants, wicker chairs, and plants. Arched monastery windows, parquet floors, and dark grey brickwork have all been restored.

Italian classics are given a modern twist on the menu, like polpo alla griglia con caponata di melanzane and orecchiette with datterini sauce baked in vanilla with burrata and parmesan. Bluvertigo guitarist Sergio Carnevale also put together the beverage menu.

Carlo Cracco, a Michelin-starred chef, and Tanja Solci, an art director, turned a derelict sawmill from the 1930s into an industrial-style restaurant with minimal decor. Exposed pillars, raw ceilings, and brick walls in Carlo e Camilla juxtapose with artwork by Ron Arad and Ross Lovegrove, antique chandeliers, and a cross-shaped table made for group meals. Italian seasonal meals prepared in-house by Cracco’s crew are offered alongside daily specials.

Penelope A Casa

A rich culinary selection that honours the Abruzzo region’s culinary heritage wins you over at this cozy-chic restaurant in the Ticinese neighbourhood. It also appeals for its metropolitan and contemporary character of furnishings. In a very scenic area, the laid-back and social attitude is diluted. As soon as you walk in, you can’t help but notice the creative use of colour, texture, and scale of Penelope A Casa. From the patterned floor to the crystal chandeliers, the mirrored walls, and the stunning aqua-green bar counter adorned with sparkling glasses and spice jars, this restaurant will end up on your feed for sure!

Fans of cooking shows may be familiar with Chef Alessandro Borghese. His restaurant is located on the first floor of the storied Gio Ponti building on Via Belisario, in the modern CityLife neighbourhood. It’s an uncommon location, but one that gives it a certain global dimension. The interiors have a strong yet cosy texture thanks to elegant fittings that harken back to the 1920s, a sprinkle of cruise ship style, works of art, and design artefacts.

The 18th-century carriage portico and old orangerie of the Galleria d’Arte Moderna in Via Palestro are now occupied by this winter-garden café. Large arched windows let in plenty of light, and potted plants and palm trees brighten the otherwise neutral furnishings of LùBar’s straightforward area. Traditional Sicilian street food staples such as arancini and cannoli feature on the menu, while more substantial offerings include baked panelle palermitane, eggplant balls, and pasta with bottarga.
