Since 1870, the luxurious Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in seaside Antibes has been a mainstay of the French Riviera, acting as a home-away-from-home for numerous high-society leaders and celebrities. Hollywood A-listers have been known to stay at this hotel during the Cannes Film Festival in May to take advantage of the enchanted surroundings: spread on 22 acres of grounds, the establishment provides breathtaking views of the Côte d’Azur.
Although every hotel has a tale to share, few are as amazing as that of the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. Villa Soleil, which was constructed in 1869 by the founder of Le Figaro newspaper, Hippolyte de Villemessant, was created as a refuge for writers in need of motivation. It took on its present name by 1887 and was destined to become the hotel that popularised the French Riviera as a summer vacation spot.

The Grand Hôtel du Cap was founded in 1889 after Italian hotelier Antoine Sella bought the land in 1887. The Eden Roc pavilion was built in 1914, 400 yards apart from the main hotel. An American couple named Gerald and Sara Murphy who had moved to France in the 1920s hired the hotel for the duration of the summer. This was notable because the French Riviera was still seen as an elite winter getaway rather than a summer vacation spot.
With the Murphys came Ernest Hemingway and F Scott Fitzgerald, both members of the Lost Generation, with Fitzgerald even immortalizing Eden-Roc as the Hôtel des Etrangers in his book Tender is the Night. After they were built in the 1960s, Marc Chagall sketched in one of the shaded cabanas along the beach and many others walked the halls of this majestic place.
This location has a fascinating past! Here, the Kennedys used to holiday, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton went on their first-ever honeymoon, and Pablo Picasso even created the menus. It is rife with allusions to popular culture.
There are currently 117 guest rooms available, some of which are housed in the original Villa Soleil structure. It is a must-visit for anyone looking for a taste of the traditional French Riviera charm because it is recognized for having the best restaurants, lodgings, and parties on the Côte d’Azur.

For the past two decades, amfAR, a nonprofit organization dedicated to AIDS research, has hosted a charity auction as part of its annual Cinema Against AIDS event at the Cannes Film Festival, held at the Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc. The luxurious hotel served as the location for the Croisière 2011-2012 Collection by Chanel Couture, which was shown on its main road overlooking the water in May 2011. Additionally, it was the setting for Karl Lagerfeld‘s short film, The Tale of a Fairy, which starred prominent actresses and models such as Anna Mouglalis, Kristen McMenamy, and Baptiste Giabiconi.
According to The New York Post, Sofia Richie and Elliot Grainge rented the entire hotel for their elegant affair. The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc website specifies that weddings with 100 guests or more require a two-night minimum buyout.
