Located within five ancient Victorian brick vault arches just beneath the concourse of the famous London Bridge Station in Central London, this flagship venue has more than 8,000 square feet of space. The impressive and eerie vaults have been transformed into a stunning new facility, featuring two show-stopping bars, ten shuffleboard play areas, and numerous food and beverage spaces. The location has been carefully planned to provide a dramatic, sensory, and conceptual setting that highlights the magnificent Victorian architecture that is still visible underneath the London Bridge station.

The venue’s location at London Bridge and its role as a significant transportation hub served as inspiration for the design. This idea of connectivity and dynamism are explored within the design with nods to both the transport aesthetic and the Art Deco period as a golden age of travel. The primary bar design is made up of a gorgeously intricate triptych of arches that are intended to telescopically retreat into the geometry of the existing brick archway. The bar features unique wood and metalwork detailing, hand-painted finishes, and custom wallpaper.

The regressive motion of light through tunnels served as inspiration for the architecture of the bar. This concept combines the scheme’s train and transportation-related features with Electric Shuffle’s electrically influenced appearance. A series of extended sinuous arches make up the second bar, giving the room a sense of dramatic verticality. Between the final two arches, the bar serves as a focal point. Its design was influenced by the intricate arrangements of vaults and arches typically found in railway station architecture. Custom-made chrome hemispheres embedded within the hand-painted, lit arches evoke oversized rivets, and the industrial-inspired features, such as the ribbed timber and metal strapping, give homage to the railway-inspired style.

Although reinterpreted and embellished with tributes to parts of rail and transportation-inspired aesthetics, custom-made lighting and bespoke designed materials reflect an Electric Shuffle’s Art Deco look. To pay homage to the famous lighting featured in opulent train concourses of the 20th century, the Studio created unique pieces like the dramatic enormous brass chandeliers that hang throughout the venue.

Custom-made timber joinery has been planned to function as a central band encircling the venue’s outside walls. The areas are given a visual and physical structure as well as a sense of rhythm and continuity because of this. The paneling, which combines ribbed wood, pleated velvets, metal meshes, and textured glass, is evocative of the forms used in the detailing of old railway carriages.

The gorgeously designed shuffleboard tables have been further developed by the Studio in accordance with the requirements to fit the intricate geometry of the venue’s architecture. The venue’s custom-designed dramatic cantilevered metalwork feature, which supports lights and encloses and enhances the tables with pleated velvet and mesh detailing, furthers the look inspired by transportation.

Dramatic wall murals placed around the space further explore the concepts of connectedness and dynamism. The large-scale, hand-painted piece draws influence from the Futurist art movement and pays tribute in particular to a group of British painters who produced work under the moniker “Vortism” in the early 20th century. The Studio has drawn inspiration from the idea of movement electrification and energy. Their work was motivated by the kinetic energy provided to transportation through the usage of electricity.
