Today, The Most Expensive Homes will discuss the marvelous Santa Monica Home owned by textiles and interiors designer, Kathryn M. Ireland. The creator bought this beautiful home last year from actor, Tobey Maguire and adapted a bohemian decor style to its interiors, resulting an one-of-a-kind residence.
Ireland is best known for her boho spirit and extravagant use of colors and her 1920s Spanish house reflects just that. The designer completely transformed the home into a more cohesive unit taking into account its two other structures, a guest cottage and a modern back studio.
She recurred to the use of textiles, English and French antiques, patchwork rugs as well as eclectic accents to give it a little more of a bohemian pizzazz. A hand-painted Sicilian table and a magical photograph of a horse having tea which also give a majestic touch to the overall design.
The vivacious living room highlights a marvelous red custom sofa in a linen velvet fabric from the designer’s own collections. It also features two gorgeous armchairs, one dressed in an Otis Textiles linen splicover and a fabric that Ireland bought in Marrakech. In addition, the rug is from Amadi Carpets, the steel-framed sliding doors are from Chateau Domingue, and finally, the wall hanging is a 19th-century Suzani.
For her master bedroom, Ireland designed the stunning hand hammered–iron canopy bed and the elegant sofa. She completed the decor with an African cocktail table, and some bed-curtains made with her brand fabrics. The room is completed by a powder room that is covered in a pale paisley wallpaper.
The master bathroom, which sports a contemporary look with its quartz floors and modern glass shower, is simple but elegant. It fully matches the bohemian and minimalistic style of the Powder Room, serving as a continuity of that décor style.
The outdoors are perfect for sunbathing sessions and appointed with stunning seating arrangements as well as an elegant swimming pool. As a whole, the designer was able to transform this home into an oasis that is now one of the most exquisite homes in the region.
