Continuing our tour through amazing celebrity homes, today The Most Expensive Homes brings you Will and Jada Smith’s mansion in Calabasas, California. The mega mansion took seven years to build and the result is breathtaking. The celebrity couple called on Stephen Samuelson to design an adobe-style residence full of intimate spaces, organic forms, and handcrafted details.
Hundreds of master woodworkers, plasterers, metalsmiths, stonemasons, and upholsterers contributed their expertise to this deeply personal project. “Everything needed to be done by hand,” said Will Smith to Architectural Digest magazine. “We wanted to feel the love and labor that went into every piece of this place.”
Ancient cultures are referenced throughout the mansion thanks to the Smiths’ collection of antique carved panels, doors, and architectural details from the Middle East, Africa, the American Southwest, and Asia, including the house’s monumental front door, which once provided entry to a fort in northern India.
Everybody’s dream home, the estate is 25,000 square feet and rests on 150 acres of land. The mansion was completly costum constructed and catches the eye. There is a man-made lake, a swimming pool designed to look like a lagoon, volleyball, basketball, and tennis courts, and multiple buildings for relaxing after all the entertainment activities available. We mustn’t forget the eight-car garage, which must be filled with luxury cars we would love to drive someday.
Finished by Los Angeles based decorator Judith Lance, the interiors are so inviting and confortable. Using reference books on tribal jewelry as her points of departure, Lance ennobled specific rooms with exquisite custom-made pieces.
The spicy color pallete and the different textures applied give a warm look to the interior design project while the handcrafted furniture and decoration items give an unique character to the luxury estate. There is a double height entryway and living room with columns, multiple fireplaces, a formal dining room, and an oak accented kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, and a separate breakfast room. The house also sports a meditation lounge, specially made for Jada, a retractable skylight in the main living area, and a recording studio, where Willow Smith recorded her first hit, “Whip My Hair”.
