“We took the traditional concept of the piece of traditional craftsmanship and we adapted it to present day. For example, for the nine hotels that I designed in Colombia, we did everything based on craftsmanship. From the carpets, all of them handmade, to the tapestries that we lined on the walls, the jars. It was so much craftsmanship that we used on those hotels that I remember the local people thanking me for showing Colombia how much craftsmanship was worth and it was very nice to see.”

The worldwide interior designer believes that every design or craft piece is special, whether it is being shown in its country of origin, or in a foreign country making her one of the best references for Portuguese craftsmanship. During her amazing talk with the luxury design magazine, Nini Andrade Silva recalled an episode in which she introduced some of the best examples of the arts and crafts from her country to Colombia, a whole different country from the Portuguese.

Nini Andrade Silva defined herself as a person who “doesn’t follow any trends”, seeking “to create them” instead. In order to preserve beautiful Portugal arts and crafts and introduce them to other countries, the interior designer strongly supports these ancient techniques. She feels that more and more Portuguese involved in that industry are becoming more confident in their design work, feeling that it’s very good that they can get to defend both their history and their work.

“The difference is so big from country to country that what we definitely need to do is try to know, meet the people, the culture, respecting and then proceed with creations.”

Nini Andrade Silva explained that her unique sensibility for working with distinct cultures comes from working with different countries. The interior designer recalled a past client who had a reading room in a bedroom and a pantry within a room with windows, an interior design project that made her become more aware of some cultural differences from country to country and from culture to culture.

  • Unveiled as a superb master suite, this utterly modern bedroom is comprised of a series of luxurious and custom-made elements. At the bedroom’s entrance, one spots a sophisticated trinity of designs in the Charla dresser, the Darian Gold mirror, and the Waterfall II wall lamp, all of which contribute to the sublimity of this space. Moving on, however, the “matriarch of the bunch” easily becomes the Charla bed, which showcases LUXXU’s impeccable craftsmanship techniques.
  • This living room is perhaps best described by its high ceilings and modern decorations. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow for plenty of natural light to come in. The Otto sofa, with its stronger tones and slightly curved form, becomes a stellar piece for one to relax and gather with friends, alongside the Gladia armchairs.
